Do you think we need more affordable housing?

  • Yes, how else can the low income survive?
  • No, people should help themselves.

Yes, she and her son are homeless and sleeping in their SUV. But, the thing that interest me the most about that story, are the comments made by people beneath it. Once upon a time, Americans would have been apalled at this type of thing. From reading the comments, people seem to be overjoyed, saying, "thats what she deserves", "she should have saved and bought a home" etc. Not to mention the fact that these taxpayers seem to think that had she been Black, she would have had everything she needed from the Government.

What has happened to American's, that they seem to have become selfish and bitter over the years? Do they not understand that every one can't be a college graduate? Do they not understand that society will never be without its poor? Will a college graduate work in your grocery stores, McDonalds, hospital laundryrooms, school bus drivers, baggage claims, maintenance? Do you not need people to occupy these jobs? Then why does this country not give them affordable housing?

Utility bills have gone sky high along with every thing else in this country. The cost of living astronoimical. How do you expect these people to live? You dont want them to have health care because you're afraid it may inconvience you, so you prefer they die. You dont want to give the poor any help and you protest vehemently against it, while your wealthy counterparts give all the jobs away to non American citizens and hire illegal's, yet you say not a word. Oh you've said a few things concerning it, but not as much as what you have said about Americans receiving medical care. Come on Americans, get your priorities straight, its time we made the Government work for US, not themselves. And for God sakes, build some affordable housing!

I read the whole story in the LA Times. It's really sad.I wish I lived in the area. They certainly could stay at my house.I have an extra bedroom. They are ones who fall between the cracks of our society. The report didn't say exactly why they were cut off from state support.Just that they wanted to stay together. So that tells me their combined income(SS)was too high.So as I said in the beginning..ones who fall between the cracks...sad.

Yes, "between the cracks meaning", too much income to get help and not enough income to help yourself. If we keep this up we will become one of those 3rd world countries in about another 20 years.
